Teacher Induction Scheme

The Teacher Induction Scheme offers each newly-qualified teacher in Scotland a guaranteed year of full-time employment whilst on probation.

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in partnership with the Scottish Government run the scheme.  The scheme promises:

  • An opportunity to gain full-registration after 190 days of teaching (one full-school year).
  • Dedicated time for Profession Learning (PL)
  • Support from a fully-qualified and experienced teacher

Each teacher has the opportunity to choose 5 local authorities, in order of preference,  in which they are willing to undertake their probationary year, otherwise they can opt to go anywhere in Scotland for a financial reward.

Those who undertake Gaelic Initial Teacher Education Courses, or who are fluent in Gaelic and wish to teach through the medium of Gaelic have the option to undertake their probationary year in one of 14 local authorities with schools offering Gaelic-medium education.

For more information about the teacher Induction scheme visit the IN2 Teaching website.

With the growth of Gaelic Education, there is great demand for Gaelic teachers at all levels and it is likely that there will plenty of opportunities for fully-registered teachers teaching in Gaelic in the years to come. Find out about the latest job opportunities here.
