In Scotland, each newly qualified teacher must undertake a probationary period before they can gain full registration with the General Teaching Council in Scotland (GTCS).
There are 2 ways of doing so:
Every Gaelic-medium primary teacher should undertake their probationary period teaching in one of the 60 Primary Schools is Scotland offering Gaelic-medium education.
Gaelic Secondary teachers must undertake their probationary period teaching Gaelic.
Those wishing to teach another subject through the medium of Gaelic must undertake their probationary period teaching their chosen subject, but will have the opportunity to do so in a school that offers pupils the opportunity to study subjects through the medium of Gaelic.
Teachers who completed their Initial Teacher Education out with Scotland may need to complete a probationary period before they can register with the GTCS.
Detailed information is available on the GTCS website.
