Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS)

The Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) offer support with course fees for students who are studying on further education courses in Scotland.

SAAS cover course fees and you can apply for a student loan through the organisation. Support is available for both undergraduate and post-graduate (PGDE) teaching courses.

Certain situations could mean that a person is not eligible to apply for support from SAAS, e.g. those studying on a part-time course, or those who have had previous support for certain courses.

Education Grants for Gaelic Teaching Students 2018-2019

Bòrd na Gàidhlig has set up this fund to support those currently working towards a career in Gaelic teaching. Applications for funding should be submitted to Bòrd na Gàidhlig as soon as possible and no later than Friday 14th September 2018.

Who can apply?

Applications are welcomed from individuals currently studying on Initial Teacher Education (ITE) courses leading to a career in Gaelic Teaching.

We will consider applications from:

  • Students undertaking a PGDE in Gaelic Education (both Primary and Secondary – Gaelic as a subject and subjects through the medium of Gaelic)
  • Students undertaking a Gaelic Education Undergraduate Degree, (BA or MA Education or  MA Gàidhlig with Education) – (no more than 2 grants in total will be approved for each student during their undergraduate degree course.

Additional support is also available for those who are transferring from another career to a career in teaching.

All applications should reach Bòrd na Gàidhlig before Friday 14 September 2018.
